Level 1
Our Level 1 skaters (those who have completed Quad Squad) focus on non-contact positional play, mastering fundamental skating skills (stance, striding, stopping, falling safely), and learning basic rules, with an emphasis on positional blocking only, not intentional hitting or leaning into opponents.
Level 2
Our Level 2 skaters must demonstrate proficiency in basic skating, lean blocking (gentle initial contact followed by force in legal target zones), advanced teamwork, and a solid understanding of rules, moving beyond Level 1’s positional blocking to controlled, light contact gameplay in scrimmages and bouts, focusing on control, strategy, and endurance. Key expectations include handling pack chaos, performing specific skills like crossovers, maintaining balance with pushes, understanding penalty rules, and showing improved speed and stamina, all while adhering to “Forceful Contact” guidelines.
Level 2 – Rockin’ City Renegades
Skaters who complete the JRDA Level 2 Assessment are automatically added to the Renegades team. It is not a requirement of league membership to join this team. Parents can elect to have their skater wait to join by letting the coaches know. Level 2 skaters may have the opportunity to travel within the state of Texas or surrounding states for games.
Level 3 Charter Team (B) – Rockin’ City Rebels
Our Rebels are skaters who have completed and passed the try-outs for the B-Team and successfully passed level 3 JRDA assessments. The last day to be added to this team is June 1st each season.
Level 3 Charter Team (A) – Rockin’ City Rockstars
Our Rockstars are skaters who have completed and passed the try-outs for the A-Team. All A-Team skaters must try out before April 1st each year to qualify for playoffs in June. Rockstars require a minimum of 4 years of derby experience.
