Please note that sometimes the schedule needs to shift due to unplanned circumstances; if this happens, we will notify families as soon as possible of the rescheduled date. Participants are still guaranteed six classes in a Quad Squad session. Please try to attend every session, as make-up sessions for your absence are not offered.

Our website is designed to automatically generate and email you a “ticket” associated with this registration. Please note you do not need to present this ticket to attend Quad Squad.

Welcome to Rockin’ City!

Rockin’ City Junior Roller Derby is a National Member of JRDA in the Open Division. We are open to all skate-ready kids ages 8 to 17. The Charter Team competes from January to May, with Championships occurring in June/July each year.

All members, including parents/guardians, must abide by the Code of Conduct at all times. We encourage parents/guardians to stay and watch practices when able, however we ask that you respect the coaches at all times. Breaches of Code of Conduct will result in immediate removal without refund.

QUAD SQUAD (age 8+) is our introductory class consisting of 6 sessions covering basic skating skills needed for derby:

  • Stride/balance/agility
  • Falling safely
  • Stops
  • Speed (timed laps)
  • Introduction to roller derby (no contact)

By registering for Quad Squad, you are becoming a member of the RCJRD family! However, you will not graduate to an active league skater until you pass the Level 1 JRDA Skill Assessment. Level 1 assessments will be given on the last day of each Quad Squad session. Skaters who pass the assessment will become Level 1 league skaters. Skaters who do not pass the assessment can enroll in the next Quad Squad session to continue building their skills.

Quad Squad sessions are held on Saturday mornings from 8:30am – 9:30am for six weeks.

The registration fee is $100 per skater, which includes the required annual skater insurance. The skater insurance is required for your participation in quad squad, and coverage will continue for the remainder of the season during which you join.

For established skaters who are at least 8 years old, you have the option to try out for the league without joining the introductory Quad Squad; instead you can choose to challenge the Level 1 JRDA Skill Assessment.
The fee for the assessment is $45; if you pass the assessment, this fee will cover your first months’ dues as a Level 1 skater. If you do not pass the assessment but are still interested in joining RCJRD, you will need to register for Quad Squad.
The $45 fee is non-refundable and does not apply toward your Quad Squad registration. The assessment schedule will be determined and provided after your enrollment is submitted, but is generally offered on the last class day of the Quad Squad session.

Please note, skate rental from the practice venue is included in your registration. We have limited amounts and sizes of other available gear to borrow, including elbow & knee pads, and wrist guards. The list of required gear for junior roller derby can be found here. However, while mouth guards are always recommended, they are not absolutely required for Quad Squad, as it is no-contact and no full game play is involved during the session.

This is for skaters who have already completed their first quad squad session, but did not pass the level 1 assessment. The registration fee for additional classes takes into consideration the insurance that was already paid. This only applies for retakes within the same season as the initial session.
